Pruning is maintenance you do for the tree rather than for the view. Dead limbs, cracked unions and diseased wood don't fix themselves. They sit there until the next ice storm or spring downburst and then come down on whatever is underneath: a roof, a fence, a car in the drive.
Trees around Keller, Southlake and Colleyville have their own rules. Post oaks on the old Cross Timbers ground are touchy about root and canopy stress. Live oaks and red oaks need their cuts timed and their wounds painted to keep oak wilt out. Pecans shed limbs without warning in late summer. We prune for what each species can tolerate and clean our saws between trees.

How It Works
- Look up close. We check structure, deadwood, cracks and signs of disease from the ground and, where needed, in the tree.
- Tell you what matters. What needs pruning now, what can wait, and what is fine as it is.
- Prune to standard. Cuts placed where the tree can seal them, never more live wood than it can spare.
- Leave it clean. Brush chipped and hauled, the yard raked and blown off.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will pruning hurt my tree?
Done correctly, no. Over-pruning, topping and flush cuts do the damage. We take out only what the tree needs gone.
How do I know if a limb is dead?
Bare in summer, bark peeling off, no buds in spring, or fungus on the wood are the common signs. If you aren't sure, we'll look for free.
Is my oak at risk for oak wilt?
Oaks across Tarrant County are. The best defense is pruning at the right time of year, painting fresh wounds, and calling early if you see leaves browning from the tips or edges in a nearby oak.
Can young trees be pruned?
Yes, and they should be. A little structural pruning in the first few years prevents the weak forks that fail twenty years later.
